A PLAN THAT PROPHESIED

Romans 1:3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
As I read the story of David and Saul’s son Jonathan in I Samuel 20, of how they came up with a plan to find out if David should run away from King Saul or stay, the Holy Spirit began to show me how the plan that both Jonathan and David came up with, was a plan that surely prophecies. The plan prophecies in the way of showing us of David to be a shadow and type of Christ, and giving us a glimpse of Christ’s resurrection.
Join me, my fellow reader, as we together search out I Samuel 20, of the plan that prophecies.
At this point David is a young lad, and is on the run from King Saul (Israel’s first man king), because God has allowed an evil spirit to be put on Saul against David. As Saul tried to kill David as he would throw a dagger at him, which was the hint that David took to be on the run from him. In the midst of confusion, of why exactly the King who loved David all of a sudden wants to kill him, David talked to Jonathan of what he (David) will do in order to find out if he has favor or not with the King.
I Samuel 20:5 And David said unto Jonathan, Behold, to morrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meat: but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field unto the third day at even.
David had to hide himself for three days which would result in him not being able to join the King at his table to eat and be apart of the feast. It was the time of a new moon, a new time for harvest, and yet David would not be able to seat next to the King for three days until He found out weather or not his life shall be saved.
Just as David had to hide himself for three days, Jesus had to hide himself for three days in the tomb. As Jesus took on the sins of man, as the ultimate and final sin sacrifice offered to God, it would result in Jesus for the first and only time to not be able to sit at His Father’s, who is the King of kings, table to sup and feast with Him. Jesus had to be clean and glorified in order to be able to go back into the seat and table of fellowship with The Father, however He was unable to because He became a sinner. Man sins, but Jesus became sin and God could nbare the sight of Him while He was unclean.
How is it that God allowed this upon His son who He said is His beloved? What kind of love is this? Man can not understand this love, but since God knows the end from the beginning, it was all a plan that was prophesied and about time to be fulfilled!
Matthew 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
David continues to say to Jonathan…I Samuel 20:8 Therefore thou shalt deal kindly with thy servant; for thou hast brought thy servant into a covenant of the LORD with thee: notwithstanding, if there be in me iniquity, slay me thyself; for why shouldest thou bring me to thy father?
Like in Jesus, if there was ANY iniquity in Him before the cross, then what is the point of Him going to the cross? He would have been just like any other man. Today, atheists would try to ‘completely’ humanize the Son of God in the sense of saying he sinned to before the cross. Trying to make the life of Christ just like every worldly soap opera we see on television. Since it’s not in flesh nature to be accountable to one who is all perfect and all righteous, man will try to minimize the truth of the deity of God, to make his own pride and self reliance feel better. Then again, like Satan speaking through the serpent to Eve, influencing her to question God’s word and command, resulting in her then thinking she can be equal to God, it all started with a lie. Satan is daily trying to get man to question God’s word!
But Praise God, that the Kingdom of God is not in word, but in Power and that power rest upon Christ as He went through times (tests and trials) of temptation to live obediently unto death!
Now Jonathan and David went out into the field as planned and instituted between them, before the Lord, a covenant of kindness, salvation, and peace.
Jonathan talking to David…I Samuel 20:14-17 (14) And thou shalt not only while yet I live shew me the kindness of the LORD, that I die not: (15) But also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever: no, not when the LORD hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth. (16) So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, Let the LORD even require it at the hand of David's enemies. (17) And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him: for he loved him as he loved his own soul.
You see, my fellow reader, Jonathan believed in David. As a best friend to David as he was, he knew the word of the Lord spoken concerning David, he saw the hand of God upon David, he didn’t just believe in David, but believed in the word of the Lord that David carried for a season until its fulfillment, resulting in David’s Kingdom given and established by God. There was so much evidence revealed to Jonathan, concerning David that God was going to fulfill His word through him. Jonathan believed because as he grew in relationship with David, he saw the heart of God, and as he saw the heart of God in David, I believe He began to have faith in the word of God spoken upon David.
As Jonathan trusted in David, then how much greater is it expected of us to trust in Jesus and His word? If we just allow the Holy Spirit to transform us, renew our mind, to be more like Christ and to grow in relationship with Him and understand His heart, allowing ours to transformed into His, then we will begin to trust and walk by faith to see His Kingdom come and His will be done IN earth as it is in heaven! We will live our lives being so persuaded that He will come again to fully establish His Kingdom on a new earth and we then entering into the joy of the Lord! That will only come to us, if we walk in the relationship of covenant with Christ!
I Samuel 20:18 (18) Then Jonathan said to David, To morrow is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty. (19) And when thou hast stayed three days, then thou shalt go down quickly, and come to the place where thou didst hide thyself when the business was in hand, and shalt remain by the stone Ezel.
David was “quickly” put down to hide during the time when business was in hand. Even though Christ was not able for three days to be at fellowship with The Father, unable to attend business like usual at the table of communion, yet He was taking care of business while in the grave! Defeating death and taking its keys and of the grave! It was happening quick within the three days, that what sin was unleashed in the world and bound man for thousands of years, was now being cleaned up in three days, because it was the time of a new moon, it was time for a new harvest, a new covenant!
I Samuel 20:22 But if I say thus unto the young man, Behold, the arrows are beyond thee; go thy way: for the LORD hath sent thee away.
The arrows went beyond where David hid signifying that he was to be on the run, to save his life and NOT DIE, because God was going to establish a Kingdom through David! David it’s time for David to begin the journey. I believe prophetically, concerning Christ and what He accomplished, this shows that as the arrows went beyond David, the power and availability of Salvation goes beyond two thousand years ago when Christ died on the cross! He did it once and for ALL who believe in Him and shall be saved until the coming of our Lord and His Kingdom!
David’s reasoning of why he didn’t attend the feast for three days was told to King Saul by Jonathan, and Jonathan said…I Samuel 20:29 And he (David) said, Let me go, I pray thee; for our family hath a sacrifice in the city; and my brother, he hath commanded me to be there: and now, if I have found favour in thine eyes, let me get away, I pray thee, and see my brethren. Therefore he cometh not unto the king's table.
Again, Jesus died on the cross for all who receive it, born again INTO covenant with Him, INTO the Kingdom of God as a citizen, making us brethren, brothers and sisters, a family in the Lord! Jesus was willing, by obedience, to go to the cross and into the grave to save all, who is…His brethren spiritually! There fore, like David, Jesus came not to the King’s table, because business of conquering salvation was being taken care of.
I Samuel 20:35 And it came to pass in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David
It Came To Pass! Jesus has done it as appointed and promised by the Father! There is no other salvation to inherit eternal life, but only IN Jesus! It’s a done deal! Death has been defeated! As David hid by a stone and then fled, Jesus laid behind the stone and then was cracked and rolled away, showing that the seal has been broken! He is resurrected and the Power of the Kingdom of God was been shown and glorified in Christ Jesus!
Now when it was time for Jonathan and David to depart, this is what happened…I Samuel 20:41 (41) And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded (controlled himself). (42) And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, The LORD be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever. And he arose and departed: and Jonathan went into the city.
I think of when Jesus appeared before the disciples and a multitude of five hundred. You see, Jonathan and David wept because of a separation of relationship for the sake of the life and word of the Lord to be fulfilled through David, but all who witnessed Christ alive and glorified, were weeping tears of joy, because relationship has been made accessible to them, in Christ! David left to go establish a Kingdom by God as Christ then left the earth to prepare the Kingdom of heaven, a place for the saints to dwell when He returns to establish it and made manifest!
So I want to encourage us all! Jesus did it! He is alive and on the throne! He is on the right hand of the Father, of the King! And by prayer in covenant relationship, we can through Him, join the Father at the table of fellowship and feast in the goodness of who He is in our life! The time of the new moon came, the new covenant has come and made available to us in Jesus name! So let’s live our life knowing that we gained a eternal relationship! A relationship that saves all because of a plan that prophesied and was and is now fulfilled through Jesus’ obedience unto death and now glorified!
II Timothy 2:8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
Hebrews 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God
