THE CURRENCY OF MANNERS

When it comes to manners, we teach our kids that like Money is to buying things, Manners is a type of Currency that can afford them Kindness and Generosity in return, if they do desire it.

So whenever our kids ask for something at home or outside the home, Laurel and I tell them that it will cost them their manners and then they immediately re-ask their request using words such as “may I”, ”please” and “thank you”.

I suppose if what they asking is really really valuable to them, they will repeat their manners over and over, like saying “please please please pleeeeease”. Haha

It all begins with our approach to God. We don’t have to come as beggars, when we are grafted in as children. However that does not give us license to approach God without the value of manners. Know who you are talking to in prayer.

Remember when Jesus healed the 10 lepers and only 1 returned to say thank you? (Luke 17:11-19) The scripture says in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is THE WILL of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

All those men may have experience a miracle, but one knew the value of manners, indicating all the more how valuable his miracle really was to him.

In all honesty, I am thankful to say my wife and I no longer have to ask our children often about their manners, because they learned to come prepared with Manners in their pocket, ready to invest into the economy of consideration and value for one another.

If ever you question whether or not you are in God’s will, begin at the place of thanksgiving and know how to approach Him in prayer, for your posture determines to you the value of His provision to your life.

So let’s first approach Him accordingly and also approach others as we also would like to be approached with decency, respect and consideration. Not demanding, but requesting (and there is a difference), while not forgetting to bring our currency of manners.
